Pune NCP candidates Rajlaxmi Bhosale, a former mayor, and Rahul Dhole-Patil, the son of a former mayor, are among the richest candidates contesting in Pune civic polls. But what sets them apart are the sets of wheels each owns. While Bhosale has declared that she has eight four-wheelers, Dhole-Patil apparently owns only a two-wheeler.

According to her assets declaration, Bhosale’s family is into construction and she owns eight four-wheelers including Mercedes, BMW, Range Rover and Toyota Fortuner. She owns diamond jewellery worth 47.60 lakh, a kg of gold jewellery worth Rs 28 lakh and five kg of silver goods worth Rs 2.75 lakh. Her husband Malojirao runs the family business and owns 100 gm gold and two kg of silver.

Along with the two construction firms, her family also has shares in Magarpatta Township Company and two cooperative banks, taking the collective investment to Rs 6.27 crore. Bhosale also has Rs 35 lakh in various bank accounts while her husband’s bank balance is around Rs 60 lakh.

The family has immovable assets worth Rs 7. 94 crore, including agricultural and non-agricultural land and a few buildings. Bhosale’s family has a loan liability of Rs 1.53 crore from various bank and financial institutions.

Dhole-Patil, the son of Ulhas Dhole-Patil, is contesting on an NCP ticket from panel 21. He and his wife have property worth Rs 7.4 crore. According to the election affidavit submitted by him, the only vehicle he owns is a two-wheeler — a Honda Activa.

According to his affidavit, Dhole-Patil has Rs 3.7 lakh as cash in hand and Rs 2.25 lakh in a savings account. He owns immovable property worth Rs 6.56 crore, including agriculture and non-agricultural land worth Rs 5.40 crore and five homes in the city worth Rs 1.15 crore. There is also land worth Rs 1.17 crore in his wife’s name.

Former mayor Rajani Tribhuvan, who is contesting from panel 22 on an NCP ticket, has declared total assets worth Rs 27.47 lakh, of which her flat at Shastrinagar alone is worth Rs 22 lakh. Neither she nor her husband owns any vehicle.

There are several candidates, mostly Independents, who have declared modest assets or none at all. For instance, Neelam Gaikwad from Panel 22, according to her affidavit, has property worth “Rs 100 in cash only” and has no other movable or immovable assets. Raju Krishan Kale, another Independent, has declared that he has no assets at all.

Rajendra Wagaskar, who is contesting from Panel 21 on an NCP ticket, has declared assets worth Rs 48 lakh. His wife Vanita, who is contesting from the same panel, has declared a property worth Rs 51.35 lakh. Both husband and wife have insurance policies worth Rs 1 crore each.
