Ludhiana In a meeting that lasted for mere 10 minutes, the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation cleared its annual budget worth Rs 652.55 crore for the coming fiscal. Of the total 75 councillors, only 36 were present in the annual budget meeting.

Congress councillors are seeking legal advice on the issue stating that the matter will be taken to the court alleging that the MC is making fun of serious meetings like the budget session.

Congress councillor Amrit Varsha Rampal stood up to discuss the budget in the house meeting but she was not allowed to speak and Mayor Hakam Singh Giaspura asked the joint commissioner to read the budget agenda which was passed by the 22 SAD-BJP councillors in a minute.

Of the 36 councillors, 14 Congress councillors present in the meeting rued that they were not being allowed to speak on items which are showing more expenditure and less income.

Most of the SAD-BJP councillors claimed that they were stuck in traffic jams in various parts of the city and hence they reached 10-15 minutes late. But, by the time they reached the meeting was already over. BJP MLA Harish Bedi found the mayor and commissioner leaving when he entered the hall .

Though the corporation has failed to meet last year's income targets and failed in a number of sectors, the Mayor did not feel the need to discuss the pending and more serious issues. The Congress councillors also staged a protest after the meeting.
