Chandigarh The perennial parking problem at the Punjab and Haryana High Court is expected to worsen from the second week of February when work on the multi-level parking project begins.

While the foundation stone for the multi-level parking will be laid on February 14 by Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan, the project is scheduled to be completed in nine months.

The period of construction may not prove comforting for those litigants who were already tugging it out with the crunch in parking space in the court premises. The current parking lot in the High Court had been reserved for the advocates, courtesy a decision of the High Court Bar.

“Once completed, the three-storeyed multi-level parking project will solve the parking troubles in the court premises. We are in the process of making some alternate arrangements to ensure that the parking menace does not worsen,” said President of the High Court Bar Association Advocate Rupinder S Khosla.

The multi-level parking will be constructed close to the Rock Garden area near the office of Advocate Generals, Punjab and Haryana. The parking is expected to have enough space so as to accommodate as many as 700 vehicles.
