Pune, February 3 Chief Justice of India K. G. Balakrishnan today called for the germination of innovative ideas and channelise them to change our economy, society and country. "To achieve the dream of a strong and developed India, it is imperative for us to work together, to fuse our ideas, merge them into one, so that we can work collectively to realise that single greatest element of our dream that unites all of us,” he said.

Balakrishnan was in the city to address a gathering at Maharashtra Institute of Technology (MIT) after giving away the Bharat Asmita Awards. Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Dr Raman Singh, former dean of IIM-Ahmedabad, Dr Bakul Dholkia, Rajyasabha MP Bajayant Panda and chief editor of CNN-IBN Rajdeep Sardesai received awards in various categories.

“The development of successful management practices that can deal with specific issues and challenges is an urgent need, for only then can we focus on the broader problems that we are facing in this globally competitive world which is rapidly changing with every step,” said Balakrishnan. “We should be able to inculcate the ability to focus on specific demands and then go on to create larger objectives. Once these objectives are created, then a solution oriented, people centric, flexible and diverse skill-set ought to be planned and developed. The next step would involve concerted efforts to teach those skills to the common man so that the populace, over the time is able to improve its own effectiveness and efficiency,” he added.

Former IIM dean Dholakia, emphasising on youth power said, "It is a time to recognize the power of youth in this country. This power will lead us to emerge as a leader," Sardesai in his speech declared that IBN-Lokmat, a Marathi news channel would start in March.

Chhattisgarh has become the first State in India to have zero power cut, claimed Raman Singh in his speech. "We achieved this on January 1, and have planned that there will be no power cut in Chhattisgarh for 30 years. As many as 49 private firms have agreed to invest in the state, for producing 39,500 MW of power with an investment of Rs.1.59 lakh crore," he said. Singh also claimed that all trucks in state would now run on bio-diesel. "We have planted more than 25 crore saplings of jatropha across the state through which we produce bio-diesel," he said.
