Aurbindo College confers degrees on 110 students

Ludhiana In its first convocation ceremony, held on Sunday, Sri Aurobindo College conferred degrees upon 110 BCom students of the first two batches of the college.

Dr M S Kang, Vice-Chancellor of Punjab Agricultural University, was the chief guest for the occasion. The convocation was also attended by D L Sharma, Managing Director of Vardhman Textiles Ltd and Col P S Choudhary, GM (Administration and Education) of the Vardhman group.

Principal Dr Prem Kumar read out the annual report and highlighted the academic results and other achievements of the college in the current academic year. He outlined the faculty development initiatives and programmes conducted and attended by the faculty. He also spoke about the holistic development of the students through independent thinking exercises, public speaking activities and other innovative programmes organised by the college.

Preetika Goel was awarded the roll of honour for securing the first position in BCom III in the university examination. Special merit certificates and prizes were awarded to four students: Preetika Goyal for scoring 99 per cent in management accounting, Shafali Singla for standing third in the university examination, Mehak Katyal for scoring 98 per cent in operations research and Nitin Goel for scoring 96 per cent in operations research.

Eleven students were conferred honours degrees while 37 students were conferred general degrees from the 2004-07 batch. Meanwhile, 19 students were conferred honours degrees and 43 students were conferred general degrees from the 2005-08 batch.  

In his convocation address, Dr Kang congratulated the graduates and implored them to face the challenges of the outside world with a positive attitude. He specifically focused on the field of information technology for the development of the country.

D L Sharma, Managing Director, Vardhman Textiles Limited, on behalf of the college management committee, presented a souvenir to the chief guest. He also congratulated Monica Sethi, Bulbul Singh, Marinal Gupta, Atul Shiva, Harjot Singh, Jinesh Jain and other faculty members who were organisers of the convocation.
