The commendation, undersigned by then GOC-in-C Lt Gen Noble Thamburaj, who is currently Vice Chief of Army Staff, said, "Sardana, serving as Board Chief Executive Officer from September 1, 2007 to December 20, 2009, displayed sense of duty and competence while discharging his responsibilities and thereby setting an example for the Army and others."

When contacted, Sardana said, "I consider the award a recognition of the combined effort of all my colleagues of the PCB, who have sincerely served cantonment residents. I am certain the staff will strive to deliver even better results in future." Sardana, who is from the 1985 batch of the Indian Defence Estate Service cadre, is a qualified engineer and also holds an M.Phil.
