Don Shoor by city students was a staged punch at the Sawai Karandak held at Mumbai

It wheeled its way to success grabbing three awards at the Sawai Karandak competition including the best set that had a captivating bullock cart. The play Don Shoor by students of Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce (BMCC), which was among the six plays in the final round of the competition, drew praises with two awards, for the best set to Hrishikesk Nagaonkar and best actor that was shared by two students Abhay Mahajan and Om Bhutkar.

Sawai Karandak a state level competition stages plays that have won various competitions conducted state wide throughout the year. Don Shoor was also staged at the Purshottam Karandak in the city where it won several accolades including the best director to Alok Rajwade, best play and best actors award. It was amongst the six plays shortlisted from around twenty two in the primary rounds.

The best male actor award was shared by two for the first time at the Sawai Karandak. Speaking on the storyline of Don Shoor Bhutkar says, "The play is inspired by Anton Chekhov's story Overseasoned. It shows the insecurity two people have from each other and they fail to confront it. We have performed it in Mumbai as well as in Kolhapur in addition to this city."

The only component of the set of Don Shoor was a life-size bullock cart designed by Rishikesh Nangaonkar that was a sheer attraction. "The cart weighs almost 150 kg but the most striking feature is that it takes three flat minutes to be assembled or dismantled, can be folded and effortlessly transported. I worked on its making for around two months. Its wheels rotate throughout the play. I had been to the rural areas of Solapur to observe and understand the carts. It is prominently made of wood, giving it a realistic look.," adds Nagaonkar.
