Ayodhya, February 24 A visiting South Korean delegation for enhancing bilateral cultural ties today announced setting up of an Indo-Korean cultural centre in Ayodhya.

This was stated by Kim-Jin-Kae, chairman of the Korean Karak dynasty, who is leading the delegation. The delegation today visited Ayodhya to pay homage to South Korean queen Hur-Hwang-Ho on the occasion of the ninth anniversary of the establishment of the queen’s memorial in the holy city.

The ties between Ayodhya and Korea’s Kim Hae city is claimed to be around 2,000 years old. According to a 11th century Korean history book—The History Of Three Kingdoms ¿ a princess from Ayodhya named Hur-Hwang-Ho married Korean king Suro-kim in 48 AD.

In year 2000, the Mayor of Kim Hae city and South Korean envoy to India laid the foundation stone for queen’s memorial on the banks of the river Saryu.

A memorandum was signed declaring the two cities as “sister cities” enabling joint collaboration in local government services, education, health, sports, trade, tourism, social and cultural Affairs and other areas.
