On Thursday, Sarvar was produced in a court which gave his transit remand to the Rajasthan Police.

Investigations have shown that Sarvar was part of a group of 10 people involved in planning and carrying out the blasts. Two of them — Atif Amin and Sajid — were killed in the Batla House encounter in Delhi on September 19. While Sarvar and another youth Mohammad Saif have been arrested, six are still absconding, the police said.

“It has been established they went to Jaipur from Delhi on May 11,” said Inspector General of Rajasthan Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) Umesh Mishra.

The names of the 10 accused were found in the boarding charts of the Rajasthan Roadways air-conditioned bus service (Delhi to Jaipur), said a ATS officer.

All 10 belonged to Azamgarh, he added. The six absconding men are Bada Sajid, Saifur, Salman, Shadab Malik, Khalid, Ariz alias Junaid. Incidentally, all except Saifur are wanted by the Delhi Police and carry an award of Rs 1 lakh each.

Sarvar’s name had emerged during the interrogation of Indian Mujahideen (IM) activist Mohammad Saif, who was arrested following the Batla House encounter. The Rajasthan ATS had then obtained an arrest warrant against Sarvar from a Jaipur court and sought help from their Uttar Pradesh (UP) counterparts to trace him.

An officer of the state ATS said they had been trailing Sarvar for almost three months. He was hiding in Mumbai, Hyderabad and Madhya Pradesh and had twice visited UP.

According to the state ATS, Sarvar came in contact with other IM members through Hakim Abdul Karim, his batch mate at Lucknow’s Integral Unversity. They both graduated last year. On January 3, Hakim was arrested from Lucknow for his role in the Delhi blast.

Sarvar’s father Mohammad Hanif, however, denied his son has been hiding. “He was looking for a job and went to Mumbai. Early this month, he got a job at a private firm in Indore and was appointed as a supervisor. On January 18, Sarvar called up and said it was his third day on the job and he was doing well,” he said.
