New Delhi, March 4: Speaker Somanath Chatterjee is a worried man, but this time not due to the conduct of lawmakers.

His granddaughter's class 10th exam is making him tense.

"My granddaughter is in class 10 and the entire house is in a tense mood now" as the exams are on, Chatterjee remarked on Tuesday.

His comment came in support of a Congress member Sandeep Dikshit who wanted a fair deal to the "terrified" students of class 10 and 12.

Raising the issue during zero hour, Dikshit said the students were overburdened by a demanding curriculum and are under pressure to perform well. This has led to children taking to drugs and even committing suicide, he said.

"We talk of a society free from fear, but our children appearing for the 10 and 12 standard exams are the most terrified lot", he said pleading to the CBSE and NCERT to revise the curriculum. Not only the children, even their parents are a tense lot, he said.

This prompted the Speaker to come to the rescue of the children saying the tension was also for the grandparents and cited the example of his own home.
