Once again, Sania's serve proved the proverbial Achilles' heel as she went down 6-7 (0/7) 4-6 to the eight seeded former Wimbledon champion after putting up a spirited fight.
"Obviously, I'm a little disappointed because I felt I had the first set and should have closed it out at 5-4," the 31st seed said after her match against Venus which lasted a little over one and a half hours. I think we always knew that she's one of the best servers in the game, and I'm really not. I mean, I'm very critical about my game. I think I'm one of the worst servers in the game," Sania said.
The 21-year-old fought hard in the match and felt despite the loss, she could take away a lot of confidence for future matches.
"I take a lot of positives out of it. I mean, she's supposed to be one of the biggest hitters of the game, and I was out-hitting her. And I think that's a very good thing for me, for my confidence," she said.
"Obviously I stepped it up in the last couple of days. She just pressed on the gas pedal when she needed to, and I didn't. I think that was the difference. But I think I was in it till the end."
The 21-year-old said she was happy to have held her own against Williams, who lauded the Indian's tenacity.
"She was definitely trying to dictate terms, so I just stuck with playing my game and didn't change it," said Venus.
"I think ultimately I had a little more than her and it helped me in the end. I'm definitely serving very well," the 27-year-old added after the hard-fought victory.
Sania sidestepped queries on the pre-tournament controversies which dogged her and said she was only focusing on playing for her country.
"In my eyes I'm representing my country all the time," she said.
"I'm from India. Everyone knows I'm from India. I'm playing for my country. Yes, it's an individual sport and everything, but I think people associate us by our country," she added.

Sania you are a good Muslim Indian. You play for the country who has fed you, educated you, made it possible for you to have lived, supported you, trained you and made it possible that you are what you are. You are an example that every Muslim in India should follow. Making India their first love and defying all those mad mullahs and even religion when it needs. Only if your skirts would be a little shorter it will be such a good treat to us fellow Indians and a slap on the face of that medieval oppressing mad mullahs. go Sania go with are with you.
In her match against Venus, Sania has not done really badly. Her drawback is not knowing how to construct her points. While she does identify opponent's weakness and exploit the same, she does not know how to induce the opponent into error. Without this she cannot take on the top players. The next thing is she has to vastly improve her serve.
Sania is one person who'd pumped in new blood to the new generation. No words are enough to appreciate her in her acheivements. She should concentrate more on her serve and come up with some wins in her name. Same time it's disgusting to see that she is being dragged into unwarrented conspiracy's by certain unpatriotic elements there by diverting her attention from the game.
We are indeed proud of people like Sania, Leander, Sachin and many many others, P T Usha...the list is endless. They make India proud. At the same time we are getting increasingly sick of people, who in the name of nationalistic jingoism, try to raise issues about non-existent things, like violating the honour of National Flag. I will urge all right-minded Indians to raise their voices against all these jingoistic nationalists to give a bad name and oppose any of their moves of moving courts (Courts become their tools and I do not understand why Judges take congnizance of these matters) - these people shall be fined very heavily - as I personally believe that our sportspeople do love our country, do work hard and never ever have any intentions of harming the reputation of National Flag or Honour - please spare people like Sachin, Sania and Narayana Murthy. Please do something first to be proud of that flag and then point finger - if one has done enough to make the nation proud, there will be no need of pointing fingers at others. We are very proud of you Sania. Thanks.
My dear Indian Politicians and social workers, please understand that cutting a cake with Indian flag or having a beach towel with Indian flag does not mean that the people who have made India proud are insulting the nation. Please look at yourself first and ask the same question, what have to done for the Nation. I cannot believe the Judge has accepted the case, my thoughts this is a mockery of Judicial Systems in India. Not sure if people remember that, an arrest warrant was issued against the president of India for few thousand Rupees, why not submit a case against the judge and put him to trial. This is what is a disgrace to the nation and Judiciary system of INDIA. I want to feel proud as an Indian and I am.
Hello Sania,You are a Hero to Billions of Indians around the world, do not loose heart for one or two idiots. We are very proud of you and the Nation is very proud of what you have done to Indian Tennis. Understand your frustrations with these distractions but you are becoming a big girl now and keep learning to handle these situations. This will not be the first or last, you might have to address. Bigger than the court case, you have the nation to feel proud in achievements that no other men or woman has achieved. You go Girl!
