An Islamic Shariah High Court judge in Malaysia's eastern Terengganu state ruled that Kamariah Ali is still a Muslim.
"The court is not convinced that the accused has repented and is willing to abandon any teachings contrary to Islam," local media reports quoted Judge Muhammad Abdullah as saying.
Last month, Kamariah, 57, a graduate of Cairo's Al Azhar University, was convicted of declaring herself an apostate after she and 58 others were arrested in July 2005 for following the teachings of the banned Sky Kingdom, a local sect claiming to promote inter-faith harmony.
Kamariah's lawyer, Sa'adiah Din, said her client has asked the court to consider a lighter sentence.
Kamariah was convicted of apostasy in a separate case in 1992 and had served a jail term.
Muslims in Malaysia, who make up 60 per cent of the population, are not encouraged to leave the religion and those who do renounce the religion are sent to religious re-education camps.

Please be made aware that God Almighty is MOST COMPASSIONATE; we are HIS creatures (created by HIM) and one day each of us MUST DIE and return to HIM; HE loves each of HIS human creation seventy times and more than our own mothers are capable of loving us, that is why you have the liberty in this world to do as you please, it is why you enjoy commonly the air that you breathe, the water that you drink, the food that you eat, the clothes that you were, the shelters that you live, the sights that you see with your eyes, the free movement of the 360 joints in your bodies, the purification of the same blood circulating over and over in your bodies, the regular pumping of your heartbeat, your clear speech, your unimpaired hearing, the progress you make in life because of the intellect HE has allowed your mind(brain)- remember HE has the power to snatch the rationality of your brain and make you a mere vegetable lying on some hospital bed at the mercy of others. HE has allowed you a length of life in this world to enjoy all of HIS favours upon you with only one single condition; the condition of obedience to HIM Alone without assigning any Partners to HIM. There after HE will recall you unto HIMSELF through Death. Then, whether you accept/believe it or not in this world, HE will raise you up again after death and will definitely question you for your disobedience and disbelief, despite you having enjoyed freely (with a fully concious mind) all the favours HE bestowed upon you in the life of this world.
This is the most bull I have ever heard in my life - well, may be not ever. If God is so compassionate that "he is 70 times more loving than our own mothers", then why are innocent children getting butchered with a frightening regularity all over the world, be it during the Holocaust, or East Timor, or Uganda, or Rwanda, or Bosnia, or Darfur, or Iraq/Afghanistan/Pakistan? If he is so powerful that "He could snatch the rationalityof your brain and make you a mere vegetable ...", why cannot amputees spontaneously regrow their lost limbs? Only yesterday there was news story on CNN that a man got into a dispute with his sister and brother-in-law in Saudi Arabia, and proceeded to decapitate her 18 month old toddler - right in front of everyone in the supermarket. Is that fair? Where was your all compassionate, all powerful God doing? Was waiting for "his son" to intercede on the childs behalf? It is clear that your brain has no rationality, it is simply brainwashed from the drivel that is put out by your real western masters like Benny Hill or the Pope or whatever. The real proof of your God would be when you spontaneously grow a brain and see what kind of b***s**t you have come up with here. What a waste of education ....
God revealed to the Prophet (PBUH) that there is no compulsion in religion. Who are these judges to punish this poor woman for following her heart? Is this judge following God's will?? Wait, God also revealed to the Prophet (PBUH) that apostates are to be put to death if they are don't change their mind when asked in a reasonable manner. I think the judges are being fair and I am sure the woman didn't change her mind after being asked nicely to stay a muslim .... Wait, I remember God also said something about 64 virgins .... Hmmm, let me get back to my dreams .... Tomorrow morning I have a quiz on road side bombs to study for.
Nonsense! When God said there is no compulsion in religion, he was only referring to Islam. You cannot take things out of context. I know this because I went on a fellowship to the top madrassa in Pakistan. There I majored on road-side bombs with a minor in suicide bombs. Come to think of it, I wouldn't be writing this comment if I had switched my major and minor!!!

It is indeed a shame to note that Human Beings who are imperfect themselves try to drive fellow Human Beings to perfection, especially when it is not for them to judge their fellow humans' degree of repentence in matters related directly to the Almighty Creator. The Almighty HIMSELF is MOST MERCIFUL, MOST BENEVOLENT, and FORGIVES on the slightest pretext. Why is Judge Muhammad Abdullah so eager to be convinced that the woman who committed apostacy has repented wholly or not. That is for the Almighty to judge.Does the Judge have a clearance from the Almighty to judge such matters which are directly related to the Almighty? Can he claim to be without blemish? How sure is he that he is not an apostate himself? Can he convince anybody if asked? External behaviour of a person and his/her inner intentions are two absolutely different things. Please do remember that you too will be judged in the same measure before your LORD and MASTER.

I think you are mistaken! Islam gives everyone the right to follow whatever religion they want... It's Unfortunate that the conditions in India have become so bad, beginning from the British Rule, and then carried forward by our beloved Politicians! People say whatever they want about Islam now a days, thinking that if it's bad, it has to be Islam's teachings... My dear friend, we muslims are given the Holy book - Quran to follow, which is the most beautiful message given to mankind. But it's unfortunate that ppl show the wrong picture, and quote the incomplete messages from it, which potrays Islam as an Underworld Society. I have long criticzied the VHP for doing shit like work against the Indian minority, and now this pathatic act in which a Muslim women cannot convert or live according to her own choice should be condemned by every person.I believed, we were living in a modern age, but these pathatic kind of persons are living in stone ages, and they do not mind stoning their females if they fall in love.

Of course they are right COngress alone can protect Muslims even if they murder Hindus and escape into a Mosque as they did in Marad.
