London, January 23: Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has said his troops were really not hunting for al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden but more focussed on battling the Taliban and dismissed as ‘pinpricks’ the rising militant attacks in his country.

“The 100,000 troops that we are using to fight terrorists are not going around trying to locate Osama bin Laden and Zawahri, frankly,” Musharraf told a conference at the French Institute for International Relations in Paris on Wednesday.

That Osama bin Laden and his top Deputy, Ayman al-Zawahri, are still at large “doesn’t mean much,” said Musharraf, who is in France on the second leg of his four-nation European tour. The two most wanted men are believed to be hiding somewhere in the Pakistan’s tribal areas bordering Afghanistan.

“They (the troops) are operating against terrorists, and in the process, if we get them, we will deal with them, certainly,” Musharraf said in remarks suggesting it was more important to battle the Taliban and that the al-Qaida was less of a threat to his country.

Musharraf stressed that the remnants of the former Taliban regime of neighbouring Afghanistan are the “more serious issue, for the US and Pakistan.

Rejecting suggestions that the violence in the border area Swat a sign of a resurgent Taliban, he said “These are pinpricks that they keep doing and we have to manage all of that.”

Musharraf also raised the Kashmir issue and said this along with Palestine have to be resolved to get rid of the option of war forever. “War is an expensive element and it is no more option for any country,” he said.

Pak by Anil on 24 Jan 2008

Mushy does not let a single opportunity go not to mention Kashmir whenever he can. Then he links it with "war". He is a biggest stupid guy Pak ever had. In spite of 1971 defeat, he has not learned the lesson.I think it is time to give another Booster shot bigger than 1971 for a long lasting effect.Along with Indira and other leaders, we should not forget Morarji Desai who declined permission to Israel to land and refuel its jets on flattening mission of Pak's nuke sites. We are all seeing the results today. Pak is jumping around it's Nukes to dare us like a monkey jumps at the end of a rope when a Madari asks him to jump because it knows that if it falls, the rope will save it. Time to act now. We have let a long time pass before a surgical operation to disintegrate Pak.Our future generation will pay the penalty for our mistakes. So do it at the first opportunity. We are with you.

ANYONE IS WORTHY OF APPRECIATION FOR SPEAKING TRUTH. by kittomurthy on 24 Jan 2008

Truth, however painful, is better than a lie. The truth that Janab Laden will not be pursued by Musharraf or establishment of Pakistan is already well known. Truth spoken late, after a prolonged spell of illusion and fake statements, is still welcome. Will this matter to others !!!!!

Musharraf on Taliban by RJ Khurana on 23 Jan 2008

Musharraf is right when he asserts that the major problem are the Taliban. Al-Qaeda leaders cannot stay in Pakistan for a day if the local tribals in sympathy with the Taliban do not harbour them. If the Taliban are brought under control, the al-Qaeda will be left with no alternative but to flee for their lives. Musharraf's harping on Kashmir is playing to the gallery in Pakistan. He has become so unpopular that he needs something to hang on.

India must liberate POK by Satya on 23 Jan 2008

India must work towards liberation of Pakistan occupied Kashmir area. Pakistan will disintegrate anyhow, into 3-4 nations. BJP did a mistake during Kargil war time, by not liberating POK. Nehru created the problem and Indira did a blader after Bangladesh war. Indira could have libeate POK at 1971. We must lok for opportune moment to leberate POK. Disintegration of Pakistan is a certainty. Only time is a matter.
