Mumbai, February 25: Shiv Sena on Monday hit out at Railway Minister and RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav for "undignified" treatment meted out by some RJD MLAs from Bihar to Governor R S Gavai during his address in the state assembly.

"Lalu brand of MLAs' were responsible for undignified treatment to the Governor, who hails from Maharashtra," the party said.

In an editorial in its mouthpiece Samana, the Sena said "the Bihar MLAs have the temerity to tell the Bihar Governor to go back to Maharashtra but when it comes to Sonia Gandhi who is a foreigner, they behave in an subservient manner."

"The key of free India is with the foreigner Sonia Gandhi. Her government runs on the support of Lalu. First show some guts to raise slogans against Sonia asking her to go back to her own country," the editorial said.

The editorial criticised the behaviour of Bihar MLAs who created unruly scenes during Gavai's address to the Assembly last week wherein some of them reportedly raised slogans like "Gavai go back to Maharashtra" because "Biharis were not safe in Maharashtra".

The incident in the House came in the wake of attack on the north Indian migrants in Mumbai and parts of Maharashtra by Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS).

The editorial said Gavai is a balanced person who knows how to uphold the dignity of the post he holds. That is why he said "the day I came here as the Governor of Bihar, I became a Bihari". How many Biharis in Mumbai can hold such a view? the Marathi paper, edited by Sena chief Bal Thackeray, asked.

It said the Maharashtra-Karnataka boundary row is rankling since the last 60 years. Every Chief Minister of Karnataka "harasses" the Marathi-speaking people of Belgaum region.

Despite this when S M Krishna (a former Karnataka Chief Minister) became Maharashtra Governor he was never insulted by the people of Maharashtra. This is what is called culture and it is there in the people of Maharashtra, the editorial said.

Tabloid Journalism by Sarin on 26 Feb 2008

Is this newsworthy ? Indian Express has been publishing this crap from Thackerays for days in a row. Sad to see IE stoop so low to the level of Tabloid Journalism. Come on IE, there are more important things to focus on than just becoming the mouth-piece of these Senas...

BYE BYE MUM-BAI! by Hong Kong Ka King Kong on 26 Feb 2008

True! Why does IE have to allot someone from its editorial department to sit down and transform himself/herself from a reporter to a translator to translate all the bull that these Hitler-admiring Fascists write in their rag? Why give them a wider platform? Afterall who cares what they think. Let them transform India's so-called financial capital into a fishing village it once was. Then this old, senile and empty-headed Marathi Manoos can go fishing. So stop translating and start reporting.

Come out in open IE columnist by truthtalking bhaiyya on 26 Feb 2008

Sirji..It is not whole IE it is handowrok of some guys like Sudheendra Kulkarni who is hell bent on giving legitimacy to goondas like Raj.If Sudheendraji had even an ounce of shame he should apologize to the country for trading terrorists like Salahuddin in the Kandahar hujack (Sudheendraji was an advisor to PM Bajpai in BJP govt.)

Patriot Sonia by Pushpa on 26 Feb 2008

Sonia is million times better than lunatics like Bal Thakre and Raj.Sonia, even though a foreigner is joining India together, Thakre's are frantically trying to divide India. If MSN and Shiv Sena are really Bhoomi Putra then they should fight at the Indian Border, not like street dogs in Maharastra.

Sonia is responsible for MNS goondaism by An aggrieved Bhhaiyya on 26 Feb 2008

I hope you realize Madam that Sonia Gandhi, if she wanted, could have stopped the violence in minutes by calling up the Mah. CM. Why didnt she do it? Is this a conspiracy by Sonia Gandhi and Raj Thackeray to cut into Shiv Sena vote bank; by allowing MNS goondas beat up innocent daily wage earners Sonia allowed the problem to grow and divide the Marathi vote bank.

The others who got the bail are Chandrashekhar Roogi, Virupakshaiah Swamy, Arvind Manvi and Siddanna Boodhihal. All the five appeared before the court. Similarly, the punishment of the remaining eight MLAs, who were suspended for a year, has been brought down to six months. The MLAs, whose suspension has been revoked with immediate effect are - Dilip Bhosle (Bhusawal), Sitaram Bhoir (Belapur), Ravindra Mane (Sangameshwar), Kalyanrao Patil (Yeola) and Gulabrao Patil (Erandol). The names of eight Sena members, whose one-year suspension punishment has been curtailed by six months are Shivsharan Birajdar Patil (Solapur City), Anil Rathod (Ahmednagar), Subhash Wankhede (Hadgaon), Ashok Shinde (Hinganghat), Subhash Sabne (Mukhed), Suresh Salokhe (Kolhapur), Prakash Khedkar (Nanded) and R M Wani (Vaijapur). Rane along with other Sena members had given a cheque of Rs 300,000 to the Speaker's office as compensation towards the damages, which the Speaker refused.

Are we taling about the same culture, which permits diging of cricket pitches and thrashing of poor taxi drivers? Thackrey should appreciate that the victims of their hate campaign feel as bad as they do when a Maharashtrian governor is heckled by the MLAs. If India has to survive as a unified entity, Thackrey and their likes must show maturity and curb their divisive instincts.

Be Indian by Indian on 25 Feb 2008

Please read the last sentence of the above editorial "This is what is called culture and it is there in the people of Maharashtra" - This should be followed in practice both in spirit and action and not merely writing in the news paper. If Raj goes on further, it will devide Maharastra in to districts, taluks, villags, streets, houses and finally Raj and Bal where no body will be there to listen their words.
