Ludhiana, January 1 For many in the city, New Year arrived with good news — that of the birth of their babies. While a couple from Basti Jodhewal celebrated the New Year with their newborn twins at ESIC Hospital, a couple had their first child after six years of suspected infertility.

“We are so happy that we have been blessed with two sons on New Year. We could not have asked for anything better on the first day of 2008. We will now have three reasons to celebrate January 1— my sons’ birthdays and New Year,” said Poonam, the mother of the twins who were born at 2:25 am and 2:35 am respectively.

The father of the twins, Tribhuvan, who works in a thread manufacturing factory, was happy that he had two sons instead of one. The couple has two daughters as well.

A couple had a child after six years of suspected infertility.

“The girl child born to Rajwinder Kaur at 11: 58 am is healthy and she comes after six years of infertility in their eight years of marriage,” said Dr Perminder Kaur Shah, of Shah Nursing Home at Model Town.

“I feel on top of the world since we could not have any child from eight years of our marriage. I do not know how to thank God but this is the best gift He could give us. All my family members are celebrating the birth of my daughter,” said Jojinder Singh, the father of the newborn girl.

There were several other New Year babies.

While a boy was born to a couple from Salem Tabri at 6:18 am at Christian Medical College and Hospital, two baby girls were born at ESIC Hospital at 10:20 am and at 5:15 pm respectively, and a baby boy born to a couple from Sundernagar at 6:30 am at Chawla Nursing Home at Rahon Road.
