Addressing a gathering on the concluding say of a health mela organised under the National Rural Health Mission, he said no fundamental improvement could be made in these fields without the cooperation of teachers and doctors, especially in the rural areas.
"West is developed because there people are devoted towards their work. We have to change our mindset," he added.
Badal said to fill the vacant posts, 14,000 teachers would be recruited and in every legislative constituency, three model schools would be opened, besides an Adarsh School, for which Rs 142 crore have been put aside.
In these schools, poor and intelligent students would be imparted free education at par with the public schools. He said under the national rural health mission, more such health melas would be organised. He appreciated the NGOs working against the evil of female foeticide and drug abuse.
Meanwhile, he inaugurated a pulse polio campaign in Punjab and gave drops to seven newly-born children.
Khanna said for the treatment of diseases through allopathic, Ayurvedic, and homeopathic systems, 56 camps were organised, where 14,000 people were checked, 252 donated blood, 16 were given artificial limbs, 1,300 were given dental treatment and ECG of 436 and ultrasound of 105 patients were done.
During the mela, skits were staged and exhibitions organised to educate people about social evils.
