Badal, Hooda, Dhumal mourn Jansatta founder editor’s death

Chandigarh/Shimla The chief ministers of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh and several dignitaries have expressed grief at the death of Prabhash Joshi, founder editor of Jansatta and first resident editor of The Indian Express, Chandigarh.

Known for his passion for cricket, Prabhash Joshi, 72, died on Thursday night while watching the India-Australia ODI match.

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda described him as a seasoned writer who changed the face of Hindi journalism. He said the prolific sports writer, political analyst and popular television commentator would be long remembered for his thought provoking writings and unmatched qualities.

Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said: “Prabhash Joshi had given a new character to vernacular journalism.” He said Joshi set apart Jansatta from other Hindi newspapers, adding that Jansatta readers would miss his lucid, analytical write-ups on cricket.

Dronacharya awardee coach D P Azad said Joshi was an avid lover of cricket and had in-depth knowledge of the game.

Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal and Haryana Governor Jagannath Pahadia, too, expressed grief over Joshi’s sudden demise in New Delhi.

In his condolence message, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said Joshi was an upright person who always fought for the purpose of true journalism. He said Joshi’s contributions in the field of journalism would go a long way to inspire the budding journalists.
