Scindia was here on the invitation of Punjab CM for the three-day-long first All India Women Air Weapon Shooting Championship that concluded today. "There are talks about 33 per cent reservation for women, but on ground there is hardly anything concrete. But, Badal Sahib has done that in reality here," Scindia said, lauding the CM for empowering women through Dashmesh Girls' College, Badal.
Addressing a gathering, an awestruck Rajasthan CM said, "To me, the place did not look like a village." She said she was very glad to visit Badal. "Had I not been invited, I would have missed the opportunity to see such a model place," she said, adding that she was also impressed with the initiatives like old-age home set up by Badal in the village.
"The old-age home is no less than a hotel… it has with so many facilities," Scindia said, while unfolding plans to set up a similar home in her state.
Earlier, Badal termed the college as best in India for girls. He said students were like his family members and he would do whatever he can to fulfill their demands. "If these girls ask me to bring stars from the sky for them, I will even try that," he said.
Later, Scindia formally inaugurated the world-class shooting range on the campus, where the competition was being held. More than Rs 1 crore have been spent to upgrade the range and make it air-conditioned and soundproof. The college also boasts of an astroturf.
Badal and Scindia visited the hockey ground also to see the final match between the girls' teams from Amritsar and Ludhiana, where BBK DAV College team from the Holy City emerged victorious.
Scindia gave away the prizes to the winners of shooting and hockey championship. In the evening, noted Punjabi singer Hans Raj Hans left audience spellbound.
