Amritsar Reacting to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s statement of the Centre’s alleged discrimination with the state, District Congress (Rural) head SJS Lally Majithia today furnished figures to show that the Centre had been benevolent towards Punjab.

Majithia said Badal had been misleading the public by saying that the Centre had adopted a discriminatory attitude. Majithia said SAD (B) president Sukhbir Singh Badal and Cabinet minister Bikram Singh Majithia were also issuing such statements.

“The state government has received Rs 2,359.39 crore in this financial year so far, whereas the NDA government, in which the SAD was also a partner, gave Rs 731.65 crore during the financial year 2003-04.

“Figures show that Bihar, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, where there are non-Congress governments, received a larger share of the grant

under the UPA as compared to the NDA,” he said.

He accused the SAD-BJP government of failing to use the money being sent by the Centre and said that the state officials even failed to submit the project reports in time for grants.

“All the visible projects in Majha, the elevated road, four-laning of Jalandhar-Amritsar and Amritsar-Wagah Road, Galliara scheme, various bridges and railway over-bridges are funded by the Centre,” Lally said.
