Pune The first ever Festival of Films from Bangladesh was inaugurated at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) by the hands of noted film directors from Bangladesh. The chief guest for the inaugural function was Saeed Mirza.

Mirza said, “I was a FTII student and I am happy that I am getting to experience the Bangladeshi films at FTII. They say that to understand the world, it is extremely important to understand your neighbours and this film festival is a good step towards understanding our neighbours. This is the beginning of a grand cultural exchange.”

Speaking on the occasion, Pankaj Rag, director, FTII said, “Film industry in Bangladesh is vibrant and it is our pleasure to witness a festival that is completely dedicated to films from Bangladesh.

Bangladeshi directors Tareque Masud, Catherine Masud, Tanvir Mokammel, Abu Sayeed and Shameem Akhtar were also present on the occasion. Mokammel said, “The current scenario in the world is a consequence of ignorance. We, the countries in the world, have not been able to understand each other. Festivals like this help to create a stable establishment.”

The three-day festival includes interactions with the filmmakers and cultural activities like dance performances and plays. Also showcased will be a photo exhibition by Tapan Sinha.
