Bank of Maharashtra slashes interest on loans

Pune, February 13 The Bank of Maharashtra has reduced rate of interest from 25 to 50 basis points on its housing, education and SME Loans. Twentyfive basis points have been reduced in the case of housing loans sanctioned on or after March 5, 2007.

For floating category, the rate for amount up to Rs 20 lakh for five year tenure will be 9.75 per cent. For tenure of five years and up to and inclusive of ten years, the rate will be 10 per cent. Above ten years, but below and inclusive of 20 years the new rate will be 10.25 per cent.

In the case of fixed category housing loan, for amount up to Rs.20 lakh and tenure up to and inclusive of five years, the rate will be 10.50 per cent. For tenure above five years and up to and inclusive of ten years, the rate will be 11 per cent.

For housing loans above Rs 20 lakh, in the case of floating category, 10 per cent will be the new rate for tenure up to and inclusive of five years. For tenure above five years and up to and inclusive of ten years, the new rate will be 10.50 per cent.

For tenure above ten years but below and inclusive of 20 years the rate will be 10.75 per cent.

For the same quantum of loan in the fixed category, the new rate will be 10.75 per cent for tenure up to and inclusive of five years. For tenure above five years and up to and inclusive of ten years, the new rate will be 11.50 per cent

The bank has made a reduction of 50 basis points in the case of education loan with effect from February 11, 2008. The new rate for up to and inclusive of Rs four lakh has been slashed to 12 per cent. For amount above Rs. Four Lakh the new rate will be 12.75 per cent per annum.

The rate of Interest for SMEs are reduced by 25 basis points and the rationalised rates are applicable as per credit rating.
