Panchkula Bank installs CCTVs, deploys armed guard

While the Panchkula police are still clueless about the two armed men who robbed State Bank of Patiala’s Sector-15 branch of Rs 10 lakh on Thursday, the sketches of the accused were released on Friday. The police have now stepped up security in the entire district and asked the higher authorities for an additional force of 133 personnel from various districts of Haryana.

Superintendent of Police Sandeep Khirwar claimed that banks had been sent notices several times to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras but they had failed to act.

“It was at least thrice during previous meetings with various bank managers that we had requested them to step up security in and around the banks and install good quality CCTVs, but a number of banks have failed to do so. Though we have now increased security in the entire city, the cooperation of the public in maintaining law and order is a must,” said the SP.

He added that the sketches of the accused had been released and as many as 254 personal files of various accused and the historysheets of various criminals were being looked into. “Also, the number of checkposts have been increased and all efforts to arrest the culprits are being made,” said Khirwar. The State Bank of Patiala branch, meanwhile, got CCTVs installed on Friday and posted an armed guard, said manager Vandana Singhal.
