Upon reaching the green belt, Bansal found paver blocks arranged in a haphazard manner, construction waste lying all around, after which he summoned area councillor Devinder Singh Babla and other concerned officials to the spot.

Bansal then apprised them of the condition the green belt and undertook a tour of the market. The lack of cleanliness and heaps of construction waste at different points were noted down as areas to be dealt with on a priority basis. An MC official said: “The work for installing fountains is being undertaken in the green belt. Trucks that carry material had driven over the paver blocks, which led to such a condition. Repair work will start at the earliest.” The problem of proper disposal of construction waste is present in almost all the sectors across the city. While those throwing construction wastes on the roadside, if caught, can be fined Rs 500, this does not prove to be a deterrent.
