A statement to this effect was made by a counsel of the UT Administration before the Punjab and Haryana High Court. It has been stated before the court that the additional 45 seats will be advertised and filled shortly.
Counselling for admission to these seats will commence on November 5.
The announcement was made in the wake of a petition filed by an aspirant who had demanded that the vacant NRI seats be converted into general category, which the UT Administration strongly opposed.
During the course of hearing of the petition, however, the Bar Council of India increased the sanctioned strength of UILS from 135 to 180.
Admn withdraws plan to construct school in Sector-27 park
The UT Administration has withdrawn its proposal to construct a school in the Sector-27 park.
A statement to this effect was made by the counsel for the UT Administration after which a division bench comprising Chief Justice Tirath Singh Thakur and Justice Mahesh Grover disposed of a public interest litigation.
In 2007, Newsline had highlighted the plea of the Sector 27-B residents, who were protesting against turning the park site into a school.
Justice Ranjit Singh had taken suo moto notice of the news item and had converted it into a public interest litigation.
The PIL was today disposed of after the statement of withdrawing the school site was made before the Bench.
File report on steps taken against builders violating rules: HC to PUDA
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed Additional Chief Administrator, Punjab Urban Development Authority (PUDA), to file a status report regarding steps taken against realtors in Mohali violating the statutory provisions.
The directions were passed during the hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Giani Kartar Singh of Mohali, challenging the construction by a builder in area reserved for a park.
Punjab Additional Advocate General Rupinder S Khosla said that within a week, the additional chief administrator would file a detailed status report indicating not only the action taken by him for violation of statutory provisions by the builder and others, but also further steps, if any, proposed to be taken by him.
