Mumbai, February 25 It is time for football enthusiasts in Mumbai to rejoice as the world's most viewed and patronized football league trophies – the Barclays Premier League (BPL) Trophy visits India for the first time from February 29 to March 3.

Barclays has organized this tour exclusively for its customers and BPL fans who follow the league closely and have taken the popularity of the Barclays brand to enviable and unmatched levels. The BPL trophy will visit Mumbai and Delhi during the tour.

It will be showcased to Mumbai's football fans at the Cooperage Football Ground. The arrival of this trophy will be celebrated by organising a football festival with the inaugural matches to be played between teams comprising children from NGOs, prominent sportspersons including former international footballers and celebrities from different walks of life. Participants from school, colleges, corporate and media will also join the sports festival.

Barclays has also arranged for exclusive viewings and an opportunity to get photographed for Barclays Premier League Barclaycard customers in Mumbai and New Delhi. The trophy will be placed for public viewing in Mumbai on March 1st at the Cooperage Football Grounds.

About Barclays Premier League Trophy
Created by Asprey and Garrard - the official Jewelers of Her Majesty's Crown, the main body of this priceless trophy is made out of solid sterling silver while the base is made of Malachite, a semi-precious stone found in Africa; the green colour of the opaque stone represents the field of play. The design of the trophy that weighs four stone is based on the theme of The Three Lions of English Football. Two of the lions can be found above the handles on either side of the trophy. When the captain of the title winning team raises the trophy (and its gold crown) above his head at the end of the season, he becomes the third lion. Each year, as part of a bid to create awareness about the greatness and significance of the mega football event, the original trophy is taken on a tour to a global destination.
