Kolkata Former chief minister Jyoti Basu’s condition remained unchanged on Tuesday. He was given two units of blood as his haemoglobin count fell on Monday night.

Doctors said Basu has developed mild fever and was given some fresh antibiotics. For the past eight hours, the situation has not deteriorated, they added. The medical bulletin issued by the hospital said that Basu’s condition is still critical and he is on ventilation.

Basu was admitted to hospital on January 1 with breathing trouble and pneumonia.

Meanwhile, today also Basu’s visitors thronged the AMRI hospital, including film star Cheeranjivi. “Indians must be proud to have a leader like him. He got an opportunity to become the Prime Minister of India. But he did not accept it due to his party policy,” the actor-turned politician said.
