Kolkata Tension broke out at Tiljala when locals noticed burnt posters of veteran Marxist leader Jyoti Basu who died on Sunday. After his death, CPM supporters had pasted posters carrying Basu’s photos at C N Roy Road in Tiljala. But today, locals noticed partially burnt posters of Basu on the walls.

Similar damaged posters were also found at the SSKM Hospital where his body has been donated for medical studies.

Shyamal Chakraborty, a Central Committee member of CPM and also a member of the Rajya Sabha, blamed the Trinamool Congress for this and condemned the act. The Trinamool has, however, refuted the allegations. The local Trinamool MLA from the Tiljala area, Javed Khan, said that his party workers were not involved in damaging the posters of Basu.

Superintendent of Police (South 24-Parganas) L N Meena said the Tiljala police station has lodged a suo moto complaint and they are maintaining a close vigil of various localities.
