Bathinda, February 8 The district unit (Urban) of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) looks like a divided house, if a meeting of the unit held yesterday evening is any indication. None of the four chiefs of zones participated in the meeting, called to discuss the visit of Cabinet Minister Manoranjan Kalia on February 10. His visit is believed to be aimed at mobilising party workers for the coming MC elections in Bathinda.

While one of the zonal presidents today openly expressed resentment over the functioning of district unit chief Narinder Mittal, the other three ruled out any differences and cited other reasons for failing to make it to the meeting, even as Mittal claimed that “none of the four was invited to the meeting”.

“We are not taken into confidence by the district chief,” said West II chief Madan Lal.

West I chief Rattan Lal claimed that he got the invite for the meeting very late. “It was too cold, so I could not attend,” he said.

“I was busy elsewhere,” said East in charge Gulshan Wadhwa. Central zone incharge Rajesh Noni also ruled out any differences with the party chief and said he could not attend the meeting for some other reasons.

State BJP general secretary Kamal Sharma said he was not aware of any rift and would look into the matter.
