Chandigarh LIfe seems to have come to a standstill for 34-year-old Suraj Walia. Struggling with renal failure and undergoing treatment at the PGI for the last several years, Walia has now been put on dialysis so that he can survive the battle against the ailment. A four-year-old when the problem was first detected, he has gallantly been fighting all his life. Walia faced the first stumbling block in 1995 when he was advised by the doctors to go in for a kidney transplant as his condition deteriorated.

“He was barely 19 years old when his mother came forward to donate her kidney to save her only son’s life. We thought all problems have been addressed and Suraj can lead a normal life but little did we know that the problem would surface again,” said Suraj’s relative Karan, while speaking with Newsline.

His transplanted kidney developed an infection after a few years and now it has stopped functioning. Having lost his father way back in 1984, Suraj, a resident of Buterla village, was his mother’s only support until he lost his job with a private company due to his deteriorating health.

“Suraj’s mother has already donated her kidney to save her son’s life. We do not know where to look now. We are just awaiting some generous donor who can donate his kidney so that Suraj’s life can be saved,” added Karan.

With the total cost of the treatment tipped to be over Rs 5 lakh, the family is requesting philanthropists to come forward and provide monetary assistance.

To help the family, you can contact: 9855899988, 9988538267 or 0172-2625755.
