Ludhiana Murder 30-year-old Gurpreet Kaur was allegedly being harassed by her husband for more dowry

The death of a woman, who was admitted to the Civil Hospital four days ago with injuries, has sparked a row of dowry harassment by the kin of the deceased.

The deceased woman, Gurpreet Kaur (30), was admitted to the Civil Hospital after she was allegedly beaten up by her husband. Infuriated over the death, deceased’s mother Harbans Kaur and brother Sukhdev Singh said that Gurpreet's husband Rachhpal Singh used to beat her up for dowry. They alleged that Gurpreet got married to Rachhpal of Sanghowal village near Aalamgir in 2002 and ever since her marriage, she was being harassed for more dowry. They said that Gurpreet had given birth to four children but due to the bad treatment meted out to her, three of her kids died.

Harbans Kaur and Sukhdev Singh, who live in Gill village, said that recently Rachhpal again beat up their daughter and they brought their injured daughter to their home on February 20. They said that they were providing medical treatment to Gurpreet at their village but when her condition deteriorated, she was admitted to the Civil Hospital on February 28. But she succumbed to her injuries.

The post-mortem of the deceased was performed at the Civil Hospital after which her body was handed over to her family. The family said that the matter has been reported to the police. Meanwhile, the hospital sources said that viscera of the deceased woman had been sent for the chemical examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
