The Ishwaria Hill Garden developed by the Rajkot District Collectorate on the outskirts of Rajkot near Madhapar village on the Jamnagar highway has been the ultimate picnic spot for the residents of the city. Now the administration has developed over 20 of the total 76 acres into a golf course, and beautified the remaining area with gardens, lawns, valleys of wildflowers, amusement park and an amphitheatre.
The park also boasts of a lake with boating facilities. The service is available at a reasonable fee of Rs 20 for half an hour.
The Collectorate now has plans to establish a golf academy to promote this sport and prepare future players in the area. Officials plan to keep the park open for golfing purposes in the morning and from 4-9 pm for the general public.
Entry to the children's park has been made free for kids below four, and Rs 5 will be charged for children below 12 years and 10 for those above.
With the help of the Forest department, authorities at the park have also developed a garden on 29 acres of land that boasts of over 10,000 varieties of flowers and orchids. Officials said they have also erected two watchtowers near the lake for watching birds.
The site, located in the backdrop of Ishwaria Temple, has been developed at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore. While Rs 50 lakh has been allotted by the Rajkot District Collectorate from the fund raised through income from the annual Janmasthmi fair, rest of the grant has been provided by the state government.
During the day, Modi also inaugurated other projects including the site of the Valmiki Awas Yojana on Kalawad Road and a new building for a court in Rajkot. Later, the Chief Minister also inaugurated the historic Jamtower, which has been recently renovated.
