A meeting in this connection was held at the MC Zone D office today. The meeting was attended by a few MLAs, Building Department staff, the Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor and other officers.
A four-member committee has been constituted to suggest changes in the masterplan.
The panel comprising Senior Deputy Mayor Parveen Bansal, opposition leader Prem Mittal, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Harish Rai Dhanda and Senior Town Planner Balkar Singh Brar is to submit its report to the District Town Planning wing within a week.
Sources said all the changes suggested by the committee will not be incorporated in the masterplan and recommendations will be considered only on the basis of merit.
According to reports, the masterplan will not allow much reshuffle of commercial and residential areas. A new concept is being evolved whereby mixed land use will be allowed in certain areas with thick industrial growth. This permission, however, will be subject to the residents’ consent.
The red category units (polluting units) will not be allowed to stay within the city limits, said sources. The mixed land use scheme may come as a relief for for the green category units, which can continue to operate from their existing locations.
People pursuing commercial activities from residential areas in any approved colony in Ludhiana may have to face the axe, said sources. There will be stricter rules for changing land use.
