Kolkata The state government has expressed unhappiness over the refusal of the Commonwealth Games authorities to bear the expenses for the Santhali dance troupe that is going to perform at the closing ceremony of event in New Delhi.

About a month ago, the Games authorities had written to the state government requesting it to send a 50-member team to perform Santhali dance. It has sent similar letters to other states urging them to send cultural teams to perform at the opening and closing ceremonies of the event.

“The organisers are spending crores but they are not paying us a single penny for this. We will have to pay for everything — from train fare to food and lodging. The most difficult thing is to arrange for lodging for these people for 7 to 8 days,” said a government official. Some states have written to the CWG authorities, demanding money as condition to send their troupes, he added.
