These issues have been included in the agenda of the CBM’s new term. The newly elected CBM president, Charanjiv Singh, released the agenda today. He said a memorandum for the simplification of building bylaws has already been submitted to Deputy Commissioner-cum-Estate Officer R K Rao. The memorandum includes a demand for the permission of sale and display of goods on the upper floor of commercial buildings without charge.
In the memorandum, demands for the conversion of shop-cum-flat (SCF) to shop-cum-office (SCO) box type, additional floors on single story bayshops and booths, mezzanine floor in SCF and SCO’s, prominent soace for separate sign boards for all floors, provision for different services like generator, transformer, water tank, lift machine room and solar panel on the roofs of the buildings, were also included.
Singh said the administration’s decision to allow the entry of foreign direct investors and big corporate houses in the retail business would be opposed, as the move would result into the uprooting of conventional retailers and wholesalers.
“We have demanded a complete phase out of CST at the earliest, uniformity and lowering of VAT rates, submission of single C-form on yearly basis, deemed assessment in pending cases without C-form, exemption of sales tax on food grains. Deemed assessment schemes have been sanctioned in Punjab and it is likely to be notified soon,” he added. He said CBM’s another important demand is to balance the rent act. Singh also announced the new team of CBM.
