Chandigarh, January 8 In charge of Punjab Congress Margret Alva today indicated that the Punjab Congress president and Leader of the Opposition Rajinder Kaur Bhattal may be asked to step down on one of the two posts she currently holds.

“It’s true that she holds two posts. But it’s not a permanent arrangement,’’ Alva told reporters here today. She was responding to a question on the Congress norm of one-man-one-post in case of Rajinder Kaur Bhattal. A few months ago, the Congress high command made a conscious decision to name Bhattal as Punjab Congress president even as she was the Leader of Opposition. However, since Alva made it clear that this arrangement would not last long, the AICC will have to deliberate on probable Congressmen who could take on one of the two responsibilities. However, Congress sources said the decision to ask Bhattal to relieve one of the posts may take time before it finally materializes.

Alva said deliberations are on see if changes in the organisation cadre are required. On Sonia Gandhi’s proposed visit to Punjab, Alwa said the visit was earlier scheduled for January 15. However since Sonia Gandhi was unwell and with the weather not good, they have decided to put off her visit for about two weeks, she added.

Meanwhile Alva attempted to discount the controversy over the relationship between former CM Capt Amarinder Singh and Pakistani journalist Aroosa Alam. “It’s a personal matter. I don’t want to comment on issue and people I don’t know,’’ she said.
