New Delhi, February 29 Power equipment maker Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) on Friday said it has secured a Rs 1,893 crore contract for setting up a 700 MW power plant in Gujarat.

The engineering, procurement and construction order for setting up the 2x350 MW gas turbine-based combined cycle power plant near Pipavav in Amreli district has been placed by GSPC Pipavav Power Company (GPPC), BHEL said in a statement.

GPPC is a subsidiary of the Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC).

The first unit would be commissioned by BHEL in 30 months time, while the second one is slated for completion in 33 months, the statement said.

The entire power generated by the project would be sold to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd. BHEL said its scope of work in the project includes supply of gas turbine generator sets, steam turbine generator sets and one heat recovery steam generator with associated auxiliaries.

The company has recently won a similar contract from the Gujarat State Energy Generation Ltd (GSEG) for setting up a 350 MW gas turbine-based combined cycle power plant at Hazira.
