Bibaswan, Amrita bag double crown

Kolkata Bibaswan Deb and Amrita Mukherjee bag double crown at the Treat Joosi AITA – BTA Championship Series 2009 played in memory of Late Dilip Bose at the BTA Complex.

Top seed Bibaswan Deb whitewashed fourth seed Prem Singh 6-0, 6-0 to clinch the boys’ under-18 singles title. He had already won the doubles title yesterday.

Today, Bibaswan was in cruise control right from the outset. Amrita, on the other hand, came back from behind to win the girls’ under-18 singles title defeating Shreya Pasricha of Uttar Pradesh. Shreya dominated the proceedings in the first set and won it 6-4 but Amrita made a very strong comeback and took the next two sets at 6-0, 6-1. She had yesterday won the girls’ under-18 doubles crown.

Third seed P Vignesh Prabhu of Tamil Nadu had a tough time against top seed Nishanth Anthony Rebello of Andhra Pradesh but eventually won 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 in the boys’ under-14 singles final. In the girls’ under-14 singles final, second seed Shreya defeated fifth seed Aandrita Deb of Bengal 6-4, 6-2 to take the title.

Today’s results:Boys’ under-14 singles final: P Vignesh Prabhu beat Nishath Anthony Rebello 6-3, 2-6, 6-1. Boys’ under-18 singles final: Bibaswan Deb beat Prem Singh 6-0, 6-0. Girls’ under-14 singles final: Shreya Pasricha beat Aandrita Deb 6-4, 6-2. Girls’ under-18 singles final: Amrita Mukherjee beat Shreya Pasricha 4-6, 6-0, 6-1.
