But who really got it all in Pune? You, who sighed and slouched at the big, LCDs for Dhoni and his Devils? No, the restaurant owners where you scrunched and munched your way to the climax.
At Yummy Tummy in Magarapatta City, rejoicing the moment was a crowd of about 100, instead of the 60-odd seen on a weekday. Chef Bhushan Inamdar said, “We were expecting a big turnout after the win, and it happened. The people really enjoyed the match while they had their food”.
Polka Dots in Aundh played host to a crowd of at least 60, who came to enjoy a meal to celebrate the match victory. “Post-match all were in a good mood. The restaurant was unusually busy after the match. Normally on a Tuesday we have around 20 people coming to the restaurant. But yesterday the number just doubled,” said the manager.
Mausami Shah of Portico at JM Road was pleasantly surprised when she saw the packed room. There were at least 50 people at the Portico that night. “We witnessed about 20 per cent increase in the number of footfalls,” says Shah.
Tuesday evening saw the sales shooting up as people swarmed in. The Ship, in Kalyaninagar was jam-packed with eyeballs fixed at the restaurant’s LCD screen. There were about 100 of them who turned out at the festive jamboree and were packed like sardines, but who cared? Restaurant manager Sanjay Solanki said, “A few of them didn’t order, but we let them rejoice”.
Gayatri Achary, a staff member at the Cafe Coffee Day, East Street, said the café saw a crowd of about 100 people whistling and cheering the Indian team on.
