Chandigarh, February 25 Aman Kumar, accused in a theft case, who had escaped from UT Police’s custody yesterday morning, was arrested this evening.

An abandoned Pulsar motorbike found in Sector 22 where Sunday’s theft was committed, put the police on his trail. The motorbike (PB-65-F-7108) was found registered in the name of one Yashpal Sharma. His address was registered as 709, Dashmesh Nagar, Zirakpur.

A raid was conducted at the house, but the residents said no one of that name lived there.

The police then approached various automobile agencies that sell Pulsar motorbikes in the city, but to no avail. The engine and chasis numbers of the motorbike finally led the police to an automobile dealer in Ludhiana. The dealer, DP Goel, told police that he has a sub-dealership of Goel Automobiles in Zirakpur, which might have sold the bike.

The Goel Automobiles put the police onto a loan-agent, who helped the owner purchase the vehicle. The bike, it turned out, was financed on the guarantee of a Maloya resident, Avtar Singh. But before the police could reach Maloya and inquire about Aman Kumar, the Sector 39 police personnel had already arrested Kumar.

He was later handed over to the personnel of police station 22.
