Sirsa Haryana Finance Minister Birender Singh has come out openly in an interview with Newsline that he is keen on contesting the forthcoming Lok Sabha from Sonepat.

“I have so far not sought a ticket, but in case I am given the responsibility to contest the election by the high command, then Sonepat is my sought-after Parliament seat. I have a lot of emotions attached with the place as it is where my grandfather Sir Chhotu Ram struggled to upgrade the lifestyle of farmers and villagers,” he told Newsline .

After the delimitation of Faridabad and Gurgaon, besides a pro-encumbency factor, he said winnability may swing things in his favour when it comes to selection of candidates. Reiterating his demand for allotment of tickets to the new generation, he said it will help a lot in strengthening the party position in the state.

On the state’s finances, the Finance Minister said the Planning Commission has in principle agreed to a Rs 8,800-crore against Rs 6,450 of the current year as annual plan allocation for the coming financial year starting from April 1.

“Our priority sector would be infrastructure, including roads, power and irrigation. But this does not mean that social sectors would be ignored,” he said, while talking to The Indian Express.

Answering a query relating to resentment among government employees over the anomalies in the pay structure, he said a committee has already been constituted in this regard.
