Kolkata Moving further away from a grand alliance with the Congress, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee said her party was self-sufficient to contest and win the upcoming Bishnupur West by-elections.

Banerjee had already announced Madan Mitra as the Trinamool candidate from Bishnupur West.

According to sources, based on panchayat poll results, Banerjee has calculated that even if there was a division of votes in Bishnupur between the Congress and Trinamool, her party will have an edge of roughly 10,000 votes. “Our party is self-sufficient. We can fight alone and win in Bishnupur. However, our door is still open for an alliance,” she said while addressing mediapersons on Thursday.

“Last time in Nandigram, we had lost by thousands of vote. But this time we made a comeback. In Bishnupur too we are going to win by a huge margin,” she added.

On Wednesday, senior state Congress leaders including Pradip Bhattacharya and Manas Bhuniya had met Mohsina Kidwayi, AICC in-charge for Bengal affairs in Delhi to submit a list of probable candidates for Bishnupur elections.
