Over 20,000 workers led by state election in-charge Kalraj Mishra, leader of the Vidhan Mandal Dal Om Prakash Singh and senior BJP leader Lalji Tandon courted arrest in Lucknow.
The campaign was also staged in other parts of the state, with the party’s state president Ramapati Ram Tripathi leading the campaign in Kanpur and MP Yogi Adityanath in Gorakhpur. The campaign was also initiated in Jhansi and Agra.
In the state capital, thousands of BJP and Bharatiya Yuvjan Morcha workers participated in the campaign, which was flagged off from the Lucknow Municipal Corportion headquarters and moved towards the Vidhan Sabha.
Addressing the workers, Mishra said the BSP government has unleashed a reign of terror in the entire state. Extortion in the name of birthday has become a common affair in the state. It is only the BJP which can make the state and the country free from terror and extortion and people should support the party, said Mishra.
When the police used water cannons and tear gas shells to disperse the crowds, a scuffle broke out with the youth workers. The campaign also caused enormous traffic congestion at the Vidhan Sabha route.
Heaping praise on the increasing number of youngsters courting arrest in such campaigns, Tandon said, “The youth of the state has finally decided to raise their voice against the ills and the corruption prevailing in the state”.
