Chandigarh, March 4 The Chandigarh unit of BJP has condemned the demolition drive by Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) in Sector 47 on Monday, during which encroachments around 40 houses were demolished.

The leaders alleged that demolition drive was conducted without any prior notice.

In a joint press statement issued on Tuesday, leaders said that at a time when the CHB is asking people not to make any verification regarding violations during house transfer, they are demolishing parts of the houses built by the residents.

The statement was issued by Sanjeev Kumar Sharma, mandal president Arun Aggarwal, Girdhari Lal Jindal, mandal president Ram Dass and Auto Mechanic Cell chief Ramesh Kumar.

The leaders claimed that during the last Lok Sabha elections, Union minister of state for Finance Pawan Kumar Bansal had promised that he would not allow the demolition of the houses.

“The demolition has been intensified in the last four years of Congress rule. It clearly shows that the local representative, Bansal, is the most ineffective leader who hs to protect the interests of his people,” the statement said.
