Speaker Ashok Bhatt will make an announcement to this effect in the Assembly on Friday.

The issue of revoking the suspension was hammered out after prolonged parleys between representatives of the two parties held in the Speaker’s chamber this afternoon. The BJP was represented by its five ministers and the chief whip, while the Congress’ representatives included the Leader of Opposition Shaktisinh Gohil and senior MLAs Arjun Modhwadia and Jagdish Thakore.

The deadlock was resolved after the Congress agreed to express regret over Tuesday’s incident wherein a section of the Opposition members resorted to slogan-shouting and waved placards during the Governor’s address to the House, which he was forced to cut short.

The Opposition members were venting their ire against the Narendra Modi government's alleged failure to bail out the crisis ridden diamond industry and its jobless workers in the state. The decision to revoke the suspension was, however, preceded by a total boycott of the House proceedings on Thursday by the entire Congress block in protest against the ruling BJP's earlier move to get the Opposition members suspended from the House.

A group of Congress MLAs led by Gohil and Modhwadia sat on a “silent dhrana” outside the Speaker's chamber. Some of them reportedly tampered with the Speaker's name plate fixed outside.
