Kamla Sharma, in a statement issued today, the Home Secretary was informed about the need to set up a police station for women to address their issues and lodge complaints.
“No women police station or women police post has been set up by the administration in Chandigarh to deal with or investigate the cases of women who are victims of atrocities,” said Kamla Sharma.
She said many a times, the victim finds it difficult to be candid with the male police officers. She said this move would go a long way in helping women in the city fight for their rights effectively.
The delegation duly informed the Home Secretary that the ground realities in Chandigarh fully justify the need to have women police stations. The number of women being victimised is increasing with every passing day.
The delegation also demanded that those police stations where the cases of women are registered should be investigated by lady police officers only. Kamla Sharma was accompanied by Sanjay Tandon, General Secretary, BJP.
The Home Secretary assured that the UT Administration would look into the demands sympathetically.
