Chandigarh, October 18 A delegation of the Chandigarh unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led by the president of the Chandigarh unit, Kamla Sharma, met UT Administrator General S F Rodrigues (Retd) on Saturday.

They demanded a judicial inquiry in connection with the land, allegedly given by the Municipal Corporation (MC) to the brother of Mayor Pardeep Chhabra at cheap rates for holding an exhibition.

While pressing for the removal of the mayor from the post, the delegation also demanded that the money given to the mayor’s brother be recovered.

BJP leaders alleged that the Congress-led MC has become a “den of corruption and nepotism”. They accused the Union Minister of State for Finance Pawan Kumar Bansal of ensuring that no inquiries are held against the Congress leaders involved in criminal cases. He has pressurised officials of the Administration not to take action, said the delegation members.

The BJP leaders demanded strict action against the mayor after a judicial inquiry is conducted against him.

The delegation also included Gurcharan Dass Kalaa, Surinder Jagota, Mata Ram Dhiman, Kewal Krishan, Sanjay Tandon and former MP Satya Pal Jain. Home Secretary Ram Niwas and Deputy Commissioner R K Rao were also present during the meeting.
