The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded that the University of Pune (UoP)’s ayurveda department be reopened. BJP city unit vice president Sandeep Khardekar has written to vice chancellor Narendra Jadhav in this regard. The UoP had decided to close down the ayurveda department last year. In his letter, Khardekar observes, “When ayurveda is spreading across the globe, the university is doing injustice to the stream.” “Though it has been a month after the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences had sent a no-objection certificate to the UoP to reopen the department, the university is yet to act upon it,” the letter says.
