The Bhavnagar MLA has said that immediately after he was elected Leader of the Opposition, he had sent a letter to the Roads and Building department asking it to allot an official bungalow to him.
“It seems Chief Minister Narendra Modi expects me to call him up and beg for the bungalow. But, I am not going to oblige him”, Gohil told The Indian Express on Thursday. It has been the tradition in Gujarat that the government issues orders for the allotment of an official bungalow within 24 hours after a new Leader of the Opposition is elected, he said.
All the ministers were allotted official bungalows as soon as they were sworn in. Even new Speaker Ashok Bhatt has already occupied his official bungalow in the ministerial enclave. But Gohil said he was yet to be allotted Bungalow No. 12, which has already been vacated by his predecessor and party colleague Arjun Modhvadia.
When contacted, Roads and Building Minister Anandiben Patel said she had inquired from senior officials of her department, who has informed her that they have already cleared the relevant files and allotted an official residence to the Leader of the Opposition. Gohil, however, said that till Thursday evening he has not received any communication, oral or written, from the department on the allotment of an official bungalow to him.
