Allahabad The Chitrakoot police lodged an FIR against a constable of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) after he assaulted former BJP MP Prakash Tripathi on Thursday.

The accused, Santosh Singh, was posted with the 39th Battalion PAC at Chitrakoot. Tripathi was passing by when he stopped his car near Barah and called for Singh. Singh initially ignored him but when Tripathi allegedly started addressing him with abusive words, he got infuriated and slapped the leader sitting in the car. This led to a scuffle after which Singh allegedly assaulted Tripathi.

Later, on the complaint of the leader, the Manikpur police lodged an FIR against Singh under Section 323 and 225 — injury and threat — of IPC. Singh too tried filing a complaint, but to no avail. Station Officer of Manikpur Durgesh Srivastava said Singh is evading arrest.

Following an inquiry into the incident, the commandant of PAC 39th Battalion placed Singh under suspension and initiated a departmental inquiry against him.
