After a change of guard, the party is now revamping its organisational structure. The party has reportedly told the MCD to iron out its image before the elections, with an aim to repeat the victory in 1999 Lok Sabha polls. In 1998, despite losing out to Congress in the Assembly elections, it had managed to win all seven Lok Sabha seats the following year.

The Delhi BJP earlier divided the Capital into 16 districts, with a president and a general secretary for each district. It now plans to restructure the entire set-up.

“We are going to restructure the current 16 districts and bring it down to 14. There will be two districts for each Parliamentary seat — they will work exclusively for that particular seat,” Delhi BJP general secretary R P Singh said. “At present, there are districts which cater to more than one seat and no constructive work can be expected in such a set-up.”

The party’s Delhi unit leadership, including president O P Kohli, is currently holding discussions with all district heads regarding the shakeup. The idea is to have each Parliamentary seat divided, with district heads being given the responsibility of a certain area.

The Delhi BJP had recently replaced its president and reconstituted the executive committee, including several young names.

“The move was on the cards even before the Assembly elections, though nothing was done, as the earlier leadership was concerned that changing key post holders would fuel resentment and rebellion,” a senior BJP leader said. “But change is definitely the need of the hour.”

Keeping in mind the fact that the development card helped the Congress garner votes in the elections, the leadership has told the BJP-civic body to brush up its act. “We want to bring MCD to a level where people feel it is easier getting work done by MCD than by the government,” Singh said.

In the coming months, the MCD is expected to dish out various sops to this effect.

The third priority on the list is selecting the right candidates for the Lok Sabha constituencies. The list is expected to be out by February 10.
